Mentoring
Mentoring Philosophy
I view providing quality inclusive mentorship as a critical component of teaching and research.
As a mentor, graduate students, postdocs, and trainees can expect me to:
Meet regularly to discuss research and career goals
Cultivate an inclusive and supporting research and learning environment inside and outside the lab
Work directly with students and trainees to develop project ideas that align with interests and career goals
Connect trainees with professional development resources and opportunities to present research
Help trainees develop skills in fundamental research, data presentation, and science communication
Provide opportunities to mentor others
Guide trainees in co-authoring peer-reviewed publications
Continuously prioritize the physical and mental health and safety of each member of the group
As a mentor, I expect members of the group to:
Communicate regularly about needs and concerns
Treat each other with respect and kindness
Adhere to laboratory safety guidelines and be proactive in risk mitigation
Maintain an inclusive and supporting research and learning environment inside and outside the lab
Maintain honesty and integrity in research and scholarship
